Piles , also known as haemorrhoids, is a common problem faced by many. It is basically an inflamed condition of the veins, inside or just outside the rectum. While there is lot of pain in external piles, there is release of dark blood. In some cases the veins burst and this results into bleeding piles.

  • Dry Figs: Three of four figs should be soaked during the night in water in hot water. They must be taken first thing in the morning along with the water in which they were soaked.
  • Mango Seeds: Mango seeds are an efficient remedy for piles, specially bleeding piles. The seeds must be collected during the mango season, dried in the shade, powdered, and kept stored for use as medicine. This powder should be given in doses of about 1to 2 gms with or without honey, two times in a day.
  • Jambul Fruit: The jambul fruit should be taken with salt each morning for two or three months during its season.
  • Radish: 100 mg of grated radish mixed with a teaspoon of honey may be taken twice daily in treating this situation. This vegetable can also be taken in the state of juice mixed with a pinch of salt. It must be given in doses of 60 to 90 ml, morning and evening. White radish paste made with grated radish and milk can also be applied over swollen pile masses to relieve pain and swelling
  • Turnip: The turnip leaves juice must be given to the patient. It is, however, essential to take a proper diet of raw fruits and vegetables while taking this juice.
  • Bitter Gourd: The juice of the fresh leaves of bitter gourd is also helpful in piles. Three teaspoons of the leaf juice, mixed with a glass of buttermilk, should be taken each morning for treating this condition.
  • Ginger: Half a teaspoon of fresh ginger juice, mixed with one teaspoon each of fresh lime juice and fresh mint juice, and a tablespoon of honey, make up a helpful medicine for piles.
  • Onion: About 30 grams of onion must be finely rubbed in water and add 60 gms of sugar to it. It should be taken two times daily by the Patient. It will bring relief in a few days.
  • Rice: Rice has a very low fibre content and is, therefore, really soothing to the digestive system. A thick gruel of rice, mixed with a glass of buttermilk and a ripe banana, is a very nutritious diet for a patient with piles.
  • Sesame Seeds: Sesame seeds are also precious in piles. They can be taken in the form of a decoction. Boil few grams of sesame seeds in water till it is decreased by one-third, or as sweetmeats. Ground to paste with water, they can be given along with butter for bleeding piles.
  • Chebulic Myroblan: This is a very well known remedy for piles. It is both laxative and astringent. The fruit must be roasted to a brown colour in cluster oil, and then powdered and stored. Half a teaspoon of this powder before going to sleep will bring about usual bowel movements in the morning, and the astringent property of the fruit will heal masses.
